How to find a tabletop RPG group online (2026)

Where to look, and what each is best for

Dedicated LFG platforms

Purpose-built “looking for group” sites let you browse open games and post a lasting profile instead of a one-off message. RPG Enclave is one: you build a shareable player or GM profile card and advertise campaigns on a public board, free and with no account needed to start. StartPlaying focuses on paid games run by professional GMs. Best for: a durable presence you can link anywhere, rather than a message that scrolls away.

Virtual tabletops (VTTs)

If you already play on a VTT, use its built-in listings. Roll20 has a “Join a Game” / LFG board, and Foundry communities coordinate through Discord. Best for: finding a group that plays on the exact tool you want to use.

Reddit

r/lfg is the largest general looking-for-group subreddit; system subreddits (r/DnD, r/Pathfinder2e, r/callofcthulhu) and regional ones also run LFG threads. Best for: free, high-volume, text-first ads — but posts scroll off quickly, so timing and a tight ad matter.

Discord

Most systems and creators have a Discord with an LFG or #looking-for-players channel. Best for: plugging into an existing community and chatting with a group before you commit. Read the server rules — many restrict self-promotion.

Local game stores & Meetup

For in-person play, your friendly local game store's notice board and Meetup groups are still the most reliable way to find a table near you. Best for: face-to-face games and organized play nights.

How to write an ad that actually gets replies

  • System & edition — “D&D 5e,” “Pathfinder 2e,” “Call of Cthulhu 7e.”
  • Online or in person, and which VTT/voice tool.
  • Schedule — day, time, timezone, and cadence (weekly/biweekly). The single most-requested detail players say is missing from ads.
  • Open seats and who you're looking for (beginners welcome? experience needed?).
  • Tone & safety — a one-line pitch and the safety tools you use, so people can self-select.

What is RPG Enclave?

RPG Enclave is a free platform where tabletop players and Game Masters build a shareable profile “card” — who you are at the table, the systems you play, your characters — and advertise or browse campaigns on a public Notice Board. You can start without an account (your draft stays in your browser until you publish), and one link carries your whole tabletop identity to any game you join or run.
